Insert a picture of your character here[/img]
Country: South Korea, or The Republic of Korea (대한민국)
Real name: Im Yong Soo.
Personality: Yong Soo's quite the character. He's almost unbelievable. He'll claim anything. He'll touch your chest (after "asking", of course). But that's not all that he does. He's actually quite serious; it's his casual behavior that makes it seem like he's joking. He says what he means and means what he says. He's not completely incapable of telling when it's time to be serious, and if he knows that he absolutely needs to, he'll quiet down.
He's also a bit of a crybaby. Yong Soo doesn't want to react to anything violently, as shown through the nonviolent protests against the Japanese and the fact that the Korean war was initiated by the North Koreans, and I think this is the way he believes he needs to react in such cases. When things don't go as planned, he'll cry. He also doesn't seem to have any qualms to crying in front of certain people (Such as Japan, since he has canonly done so.)
Overall, he's quite positive and cheerful, as well as serious about what he means. He may be frank and direct, but he has almost no ill will.

History: I had actually spent a couple hours writing this before and therefor this is copypasta. Hope that's fine X lol wall of text. Oh, and the Korea I play is Korea from 1910 on. So actually JUST South Korea. Because I think the 3 Kingdoms are separate and stuff B:
Occupation and World War II
Korea was taken under Japanese rule in 1910, when in reality, Japan had been attempting since the 1870's, and for periods of time even before then. Interest had been acknowledged by the United States (in return for acknowledgment that the US was interested in the Philippines) and Korea was finally annexed on August 22, 1910. The Koreans, outraged, held anti-Japanese rallies, which lead to the curbing of freedoms held by Korea. A provisional government was made as well, which even today Korea insists was the actual government.
Shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the provisional government began to help Chinese with the Korean Liberation Army. (Of course, there were many war crimes done against Korea as well as China, and I've found an article summing these up HERE. It's really up to Japan if I mention these, because I'd understand if Japan's uncomfortable with it 'n' ) After the war, Japan was forced to give up Korea.
An interesting note about this period, though; Seoul was the first city in East Asia with electricity, trolley cars, water, telephone and telegraph systems all at the same time.
Division and Korean War
Even though Korea had intended to be one county, it was split by the US and Soviet Union, each with their own ideals on how the country should be run, with South Korea and North Korea being established in 1948. On June 25, 1950, North Korea invaded South Korea which started the Korean War. The North was backed by the Soviet Union and China, the South backed by the UN. An armistice was called in 1953, but a treaty was never made so the two countries remain at war even to this day.
The aforementioned 2 periods are thought of as the darkest times in Korean history, and therefore my headcanon says that he'd behave...differently? then. He's still just as optimistic and stuff, just...used up, I guess would be the best way to put it.
Modern Day
After the war, South Korea rapidly grew to their current standing. Of course, that isn't to say it's been completely peachy-keen. First off, there was a highly corrupt government for about 30 years. There have been coup d'états by generals. Also, when South Korea held the Olympics in 1988, North Korea had called a boycott of it (which was mostly ignored). Planes have been bombed and a few violent acts have been done by North Korea towards the South (Such as the recent sinking of the ship and the threats of war at the US-Korea joint military exercises). But the country was returned to civilian rule with the election of Kim Young Sam, and outreaches to other countries have been made, such as the aforementioned Seoul Olympics which lead to great relations with Russia and many of the Eastern Bloc countries, the Sunshine Policy taken with North Korean and co-hosting the 2002 World Cup with Japan (even if this was spoiled by the debate over the possession of Dokdo).
Role Play Example:
It felt a little weird to be wearing a hanbok. They'd faded out of style, but he felt that today was the sort of day for reflection. A blast from the past, or something of that sort. He strolled through the beautiful city he was proud to call his own capital. The buildings stretched up high above, and seemed to touch the sky. He could almost see the lovely N Seoul Tower in the distance, with it's locks of love decorating it. Of course, he couldn't see the locks. But he knew they were there, locking in love and happiness.
He smiled and skipped for a few steps. The thoughts of all the love and happiness cheered him up beyond anything else he could imagine. Thoughts of peace within his grasp, and peacefulness among not only his citizens, but his family, and maybe even the whole world...the delighted him and he couldn't stop smiling. The flags he saw warmed him with a feeling of pride; his people were proud of him, and he was proud of them.
It didn't take long for Yong Soo to reach the top of the tower. When he did, he reached for the sky, and closed his eyes. He made a wish on the lock he held. It wasn't a romantic one, after all. It was one to lock in his own happiness, and his friendships with the many nations he was close to. After locking in his friendship lock, Yong Soo leaned over the railing, hands stretched outwards towards Seoul and the other surrounding mountains.
“Uri nara mansae!”
