Country: Iceland
Real name: Freyr Njarðarson
Personality: He seems quiet and rather cold, but deep down he is more emotional and actually very indecisive, though no one really knows about this. He gets embarrassed quite easily and when he does, he really wants to be somewhere else. He might take offense for real and literally run away. He can also be quite unforgiving, but he doesn't like fighting, usually he's just too proud and stubborn to apologise.
He doesn't truly try to be rude, but somehow he always manages to be with his very short sentences and eternal abbreviations. He's not really a fan of polite gestures either, which can easily get him into trouble.
He is not very responsible as a nation, maybe because he is so young, but he does his best. Financial things have always at least a little bit difficult.

- Iceland was discovered pretty much accidentally by several people. The settlement began in 874, first settlers were Norwegian.
The settlers were mostly pagans, but there was a political pressure to convert to Christianity. Around year 1000 many Icelanders had accepted this faith, but a civil war between the religious groups was possible. At last Iceland converted to Christianity but the pagans were allowed to worship secretly.
- 1200-1262 'Sturlungaold' (Age of Sturlungs) two main clans fighting for power over Iceland.
- Iceland remained under Norwegian kingshipuntil 1380, when Norway became part of the Kalmar Union. It created a huge deficit in Iceland's trade, because the nation's fish was not needed anymore. In 1602 Iceland was forbidden to trade with countries other than Denmark. In 1660 Iceland's autonomy was relinquished to the crown.
- In the 18th century the climate got colder and the Laki volcano erupted in 1783, and 9 000 people and 80 percent of the livestock were wiped out by ash and floods. The ensuing starvation killed a quarter of Iceland's population.
- When Denmark and Norway were separated in 1814 Iceland was kept as a dependency by Denmark.
- In the 19th century the climate got cooler and cooler, and many people emigrated to the New World.
- In 1874 Denmark granted Iceland home rule, which expanded in 1904. In December 1918 an agreement with Denmark recognized Iceland as a fully-sovereign state. The Kingdom of Iceland joined with Denmark in a personal union with the Danish king.
- World War II severed communications between Iceland and Denmark because of the occupation of Denmark in 1940. During the first year of World War II Iceland enforced a position of neutrality, but the British military forces began an invasion and sailed into Reykjavík harbour on May 10, 1940. The Allied occupation of Iceland would last throughout the war. In July 1941 responsibility for Iceland's defense passed to the United States. Iceland became an independent republic on June 17, 1944, while Denmark was still occupied by Germany.
- The U.S. responsibility for the defense of Iceland was terminated in October 1946. Iceland became a charter member of NATO on March 30, 1949 with the reservation that it would never take part in offensive action against another nation. But in 1950, after the outbreak of the Korean War, the United States and Iceland's parliament agreed that the United States should again take responsibility for Iceland's defence. This agreement, signed on May 5, 1951, was the authority for the controversial U.S. military presence in Iceland, which remained until 2006.
- The Cod Wars were a series of conflicts between Iceland and the United Kingdom from the late 1950s to the mid-1970s. Iceland was extending its fishing limits which pissed Britain off. The first Cod War took place in 1958, the second lasted from 1972 to 1973 and the third began in November 1975.
( AHH THIS LOOKS LIKE IT'S ALL JUST COPYPASTA ;A; )
Role Play Example:
The snowflakes were slowly and gently hitting the ground, one by one. They melted immediately. It wasn't really cold, just cool. As usual.
Iceland was sitting in his small living room, alone. It was quiet. He liked being alone and silence, mostly. But not now. He didn't want to be alone now, nor quiet. He wanted to talk to someone, or be with someone, or both. Even though it wasn't a special day. Like Christmas or something. He was never alone at Christmas, whether he wanted it or not. But today was just an ordinary day, and he should be able to be alone on an ordinary day, like he always was.
He stared at his phone and wondered if he should call someone, but he never really did, and he could never be sure that they person he'd call would answer. He hated calling someone who didn't answer.
He shrugged, put the book away and slogged upstairs. But he couldn't sleep, he laid there awake for several hours, wondering what the hell was wrong.
